April 13, 2020 | Easter Monday

Leader: This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it.
Psalm 98: 2-3
Reader 1: The Lord has made his salvation known: in the sight of the nations he has revealed his justice.
Reader 2: He has remembered his kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel.
Reading – Matthew 28: 8-14
Reader 3: Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce the news to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” While they were going, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priest all that had happened. The chief priest assembled with the elders and took counsel; then they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, telling them, “You are to say to him, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him while we were asleep.’ And if this gets to the ears of the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.”
Reflection
Leader: The women who come to the tomb have been faithful witness and followers of Jesus in his ministry. Now they are filled with both fear and joy at their discovery of the empty tomb. Surely their fear is based on wondering what this might mean; and their joy at the possibility of seeing their Lord again. Their encounter with Jesus turns into a new mission – their mission! What the Risen Christ instructs them to do he will also tell other disciples: go tell the others the good news. That same instruction has been given to us. We are the messengers of the good news of the Resurrection.

Reader 5: Almighty and eternal God, through the Resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, you have lifted up a fallen world and restored your covenant of peace and justice. Grant to us, the disciples of the Risen Lord, a new courage in our mission to spread this good news to the ends of the earth. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
