Since its inception, CommonSpirit Health has been explicit in its focus on ministry formation. At CSH, we define formation as an ongoing process that is grounded in Catholic theology and Christian spirituality that invites individuals to own and articulate their call to ministry; their role in the ministry of the Church; and the integration of their spiritual journey with their daily work. Formation continues the rich legacy of care entrusted to us by our foundresses; forms leaders in the CHI leadership competencies and ensures the healing ministry of Christ is made manifest in the infrastructure and balanced measures of organizational effectiveness.
The work then, of formation, is to help leaders and all who participate in the ministry, tap into the power of ‘why’ as core to the meaning, identity and role they serve in our health care ministry. Our formational opportunities integrate and build on the actual work experiences of our employees as we find daily leadership practices, care delivery protocols and business processes provide fertile ground for formational experiences.

Intentionally and explicitly connecting how our competencies help us to manage our legacy of care, relationships, results and the common good strengthens our ability to sustain the ministry of CommonSpirit Health into the future.
