Community Benefit Data
The Community Benefit Dashboard is an interactive tool for displaying, analyzing and understanding CommonSpirit Health community benefit expense data. It is the policy of CommonSpirit Health to plan, deliver and report on community benefit in accordance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations and utilizing Catholic Health Association guidance, to maintain tax-exempt status, improve community health and help fulfill the organization’smission.
The Dashboard is intended to be used by leaders in Finance, Community Health, Mission and other departments with community benefit responsibilities, to aid in internal reporting, comparative analysis, goal-setting and planning.
Data are currently available on an annual basis, beginning with FY2020. The figures presented are net community benefit expense as reported in CommonSpirit’s consolidated audited financial statements and as reported to the IRS.
Filters in a right-side panel on each screen change data views by including or excluding data that meet specific criteria. Users also can interact with the graphical elements and data tables to change data views.
Overview: Visual representation of net community benefit expense in dollars, by category. Click "i" on this page for a description of the community benefit categories.
Dashboard: Multiple views of community benefit expense, including dollar amounts by division, state, market and hospital by community benefit category. Also displays each division's and state's proportion of CommonSpirit's overall community benefit.
ExpenseDollars: Detailed community benefit expense figures in table form, by category and reporting entity.
BenefitPctTable: Community benefit expense as a percentage of total operating expense, for community benefit overall and groupings of community benefit categories. This metric normalizes comparisons across markets and hospitals of differing sizes.
BenefitPctCharts: Charts depicting community benefit as a percentage of operating expense by divisions, markets, and hospitals.
