The CommonSpirit Health Ethics Internship offers a premier experience for students pursuing careers in healthcare ethics.

The CommonSpirit Health Virtual Ethics Internship provides an opportunity to build practical experience and familiarity with health care ethics in a health system. Our Ethics Interns to assist part-time with various projects in the Theology and Ethics Department and work with the Senior VP of Mission Innovation, Theology, and Ethics, our System VP of Theology and Ethics, and Division ethicists. The Ethics Internship is a one year, unpaid experience.

Clinical Ethics Intensive

Clinical Ethics Intensives: Preparing for and supporting Health Ethics Seminars, two-day training programs for Ethics Committee members throughout CommonSpirit Health

Key Department Ethics Initiatives

Key Department Ethics Initiatives: Participating, developing and maintaining ethics initiatives/research/tools across our health system regarding clinical, organizational or social ethics. 

Ethics Data Initiatives

Ethics Data Initiatives: Assisting with data initiatives such as predictive modeling for clinical ethics consults, as REDCap database used to document ethics consults, or patient data related to ethics consults.

Intentional Executive Networking

Intentional Executive Networking: Scheduling meetings with health care executives in various roles to increase exposure and awareness of roles and projects within a diverse, national health system.

Ethics Committee Development

Ethics Committee Development: Participate in meetings, also assist with ethics consults within an ethics committee as appropriate.

This remote opportunity allows Ethics Interns to share their experience in our $30B organization and possibly gain university credits depending on your program’s options. We will work with the university to provide school credit for the internship experience.

Requirements

Enrolled in a doctoral program in bioethics, health care ethics, theology, philosophy, medical humanities, law, healthcare administration, or other healthcare related fields.  The ideal applicant has interest in clinical or organizational ethics, innovation, and informing public audiences about these issues. They have excellent communication skills, work well with others, are a quick learner with attention to detail, and solid organizational skills.
