As you bring the fullness of your personal and professional expertise and gifts to the healing ministry of healthcare, you realize that expected value conflicts can occur or unexpected dilemmas can arise. From our experience and research we know this is normal in a community that welcomes diverse perspectives. We design and implement, with our colleagues and partners, key initiatives and infrastructure to address clinical, organizational and social ethics dilemmas. We offer tailored consultation, education, policy review and ethics improvement initiatives that provide a path forward, respecting the values at stake, while reducing or mitigating conflict and moral distress. Our signature initiatives build capacity in the areas detailed below.
Clinical Ethics Intensive
Offering high-intensity virtual training on practical aspects of clinical ethics for clinical ethics consultants at CommonSpirit Health ministries. Participants review skills and tools to use in clinical ethics consults and test those skills in five role play sessions that simulate clinical ethics consults.
Ethics Discernment Framework
The CommonSpirit Ethics Discernment Framework is a standard deliberative process and spiritual exercise for leaders, Executive Teams, and Boards to use when making decisions.
The CommonSpirit Health Virtual Ethics Internship provides an opportunity to build practical experience and familiarity with health care ethics in a health system. This remote opportunity allows Ethics Interns to share their experience in our $30B organization and possibly gain university credits.
