Leader: I will praise the Lord among the nations.

Psalm 33: 20, 22

Reader 1: Our soul waits for the Lord, who is our help and our shield.

Reader 2: May your kindness, O Lord, be upon us who have put our hope in you.

Reading – John 12:44-46

Reader 3: Jesus cried out and said, ‘Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.  I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.

Reflection:

Leader: Throughout John’s account of the Gospel, he portrays Jesus in his relationship with the Father.  In today’s reading, Jesus emphasizes that this relationship shines through all his words and his entire mission.  Jesus adopts the identity give him by John the Baptist; he is the light that has come into the world to show forth the Father who will bring salvation to all people.  This mission of Jesus continues into our day and into our lives.  He is the light that shows us the way to the Father; he is the word that never fails to be our daily bread.
