Local individuals and groups can make a real difference. (Laudato Si 179)
At California Hospital Medical Center, we have environmental roots that run deep. John Muir, the influential naturalist born in 1838 in Dunbar, Scotland, ended his days here at our hospital in December 1914. We take this legacy seriously by doing our best to lighten our footprint on our common home. We choose vendors who use green vehicles to deliver products. We offer healthy food choices purchased from sustainable sources when possible. We take steps to reduce food waste, and we work with a local nonprofit – Food Finders – that connects donated perishable food to hundreds of nonprofit panties and shelters. Most importantly, we engage our staff, involving everyone on the journey to a greener future.
