Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home. (Laudato Si 13)
We, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of Houston, Texas, stand with Pope Francis when he reminds us that our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life. Our deep concern for the environment and its protection is deeply rooted in our history, especially in our Chapter deliberations beginning in 1990. Catholic Social Teaching insists that we show our respect for the Creator by our stewardship of creation. We are called to protect people and the planet, living our faith in relationships with all of God’s creation. This environmental challenge has fundamental moral and ethical dimensions which cannot be ignored.
The Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, takes a corporate stand on the Care of God’s Creation. We commit to educate ourselves and others on the current environmental crisis and to take concrete actions individually and communally to care for the Earth.
